A house for a painter
Galicia, Spain
1992-1993
A house in the northwest corner of Spain for the painter Antonio Murado. The form, the materials chosen, and the spatial organization are in response to a context in which the rain is an integral part of the landscape. Thus, the walls are leaning to become also the roof and effortlessly shed the water. Thus, the house is elevated from the ground to escape the humidity. The interior spaces are unified by a basic triangular structure. The public spaces of the house are clearly linked with each other. One is always the extension of the adjacent. Thus, the main living room is adjacent to the glass room, which, acting as a conservatory or greenhouse, becomes the place to see, listen, and feel the rain. It is the soul space of the project. Adjacent to the glass room is the open terrace, which is defined by the open structural skeleton.
